“The echo of pop sounds, the memory of electronic timbres, the atmosphere of the big stage and bright lights” are the main themes behind the compositional inspiration of Maurizio Colonna who, after his two volumes of Pop Studies for Guitar, has now turned to the guitar duo.
This new collection is the perfect embodiment of how, in music, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The encounter between the instrument and itself, inherent in a duo, opens up a kaleidoscope of sounds that span the entire timbric range of the guitar, almost to the point of translating the polyphonic weave into an orchestral one.
The deliberately bare-bones writing makes this repertoire accessible even to students with just a few years of study and, at the same time, allows teachers to bring these compositions to the concert hall.
